A licensee is sought who will receive an exclusive license, or licenses, under foreign (non-U.S.) patent applications for the invention (microwave motion sensor) disclosed by U.S. patent 5,481,266 in exchange for assuming responsibility, with the full cooperation of the licensor, for the prosecution of such foreign patent applications.
The motion sensor disclosed by U.S. patent 5,481,266 is intended primarily for use as the initial actuating sensor at the approach to automatic pedestrian doors of the type commonly seen at the entrances of shopping malls, hospitals, public buildings, etc. The new design overcomes the two major shortcomings of conventional motion sensors that operate on the Doppler principle that give rise to degraded detection capability in the area immediately in front of the door opening. These are, namely:
The tendency of Doppler shift to go to zero for horizontal motion in the area just in front of the door opening when the sensor is mounted in the traditional position on the face of the door header, and
The new design uses the signature of the controlled door to render the sensor selectively "blind" to the door, while it remains fully capable of detecting the motion of other objects and pedestrians within its beam. This means that:
The motion sensor can be mounted in a location other than on the face of the door header, thereby removing the troublesome minimal Doppler shift area from the immediate vicinity of the door opening, and
The new design utilizes inexpensive, off-the-shelf components and can be manufactured for a cost that is competitive with conventional microwave motion sensors currently deployed with automatic pedestrian doors. Further advantages and details are included in U.S. patent 5,481,266, which can be obtained from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
